A step-by-step guide to checking Telegram registration for a large phone-number list with an asynchronous tg_batch task, from file preparation to result.csv.

A Telegram bulk number check is an asynchronous task: you upload a TXT or CSV file with one phone number per line, choose the country and the tg_batch service, wait for the task to finish, then download a single result.csv. It tells you whether each number was registered on Telegram at check time, which helps a team decide which records to keep in a Telegram outreach list. Telegram itself offers no official bulk lookup, so large lists need a dedicated checking service rather than a pasted batch.

When a bulk task is the right tool

Realtime checks return a result in the same session, which suits one number or a small pasted batch. Once a list is far larger than a single request can carry, an asynchronous task is the better fit: you hand over the file, the work runs in the background, and you collect the output afterwards.

Situation Better fit
One number during a form submission or support chat Realtime single check
A short pasted list reviewed on screen Realtime batch check in the dashboard or the batch endpoint
A full CRM export or a purchased lead file Asynchronous bulk task with tg_batch

The per-product limits for each route are listed in the current API documentation, so check them before planning a large run.

Prepare the file for a Telegram bulk number check

Most failed or rejected tasks trace back to the input file. Before uploading:

  • Use a plain TXT or CSV file with one phone number per line. Spreadsheet formats such as XLSX are not accepted, so export to CSV first.
  • Write every number with its international country code.
  • Pick one country for the task. Phone-number bulk tasks are built around a single selected country, and a file that is mostly numbers from other country codes can be rejected. Split mixed lists by country and submit one task per country.
  • Remove obvious duplicates and blank lines so you do not pay to check the same number twice.
  • Keep numbers for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau out of the file: asynchronous bulk tasks do not cover those regions.

If formatting is uncertain, read the guide on [E.164 phone number format before you normalise the list.

Submit the tg_batch task and wait

The registration-only bulk service is called tg_batch. In the dashboard you choose the Bulk Check option, upload the file and select the country and service. Through the API, the task is created with POST /api/v1/bulk-tasks and its status is read with GET /api/v1/bulk-tasks/{id}.

Three behaviours are worth planning around:

  1. Balance is reserved at submission. The platform holds balance for the whole file up front, charges for the entries that returned results and releases the unspent reserve when the task completes. If a task fails, the full reserve is released.
  2. There is no per-number progress. A task reports processing, success or failed, so build the workflow around those three states rather than a progress bar.
  3. Poll gently. Check the task status no more often than every 30 seconds. Polling faster adds load without producing results sooner.

Completion time depends on the file, so avoid promising stakeholders a fixed turnaround.

Read result.csv and act on it

A finished task gives you one downloadable result.csv. For tg_batch it contains the submitted number and a column showing whether it was registered. Treat that column as a Telegram account-presence signal at check time.

A practical way to use it:

  • Registered: keep in the Telegram segment of the outreach list.
  • Not registered: route to another channel or leave out of Telegram campaigns.
  • Missing or empty rows: re-submit them in a later, smaller task or review them manually.

Registration does not show that a person is active, that the number belongs to the contact you expect, or that they consented to be messaged. If you also need an approximate recency signal, a different bulk service, tg_active_batch, returns additional columns; keep each service's output separate rather than assuming every file has the same columns.

Common mistakes in large-list checks

  • Uploading a mixed-country file and letting the rejection teach you the rule.
  • Submitting before de-duplicating, which inflates the reserved balance.
  • Polling every few seconds in a loop.
  • Treating registration as consent or identity proof.
  • Re-running the whole file to fix a few rows instead of submitting only the leftovers.

For billing details, see the current pricing page and the API documentation rather than relying on figures quoted in articles.

FAQ

Can a team check a Telegram list without a Telegram account of its own?

Yes. Teams submit the file to a checking service through the dashboard or REST API and download result.csv, so no personal Telegram login is needed for the check.

How can teams handle a list that contains several countries?

Split the file by country and submit one tg_batch task for each, because phone-number bulk tasks are tied to a selected country.

How does balance work for a bulk task?

Balance is reserved when the task is submitted, charged for entries that returned results, and the unspent remainder is released. A failed task releases its full reserve.

Does a registered result mean the contact will reply?

No.
